PRODUCTIVITY
🧘 The 5 Minute Ritual That Helps You Actually Log Off

I used to end my workday like someone abruptly pressing the emergency stop on a treadmill without warning.
No review of my tasks. No reflection on how to day went. No teeing up tomorrow’s high priority tasks. Just… “Welp.. I’m done I guess.”
Why that didn’t work:
I never felt truly off
Loose threads occupied my brain into the evening
I’d start the next day with friction—unsure what got done, what didn’t, and what is highest priority
It felt like each morning I would scramble to get clarity and lose precious high-energy focus.
So I created a simple 5-minute routine to shut down the workday with clarity and calm.
🛠️ What It Is
A few minutes to:
Check off what got done (and what didn’t)
Reflect on wins, struggles, or energy drains
Write down tomorrow’s top 3 priorities
Clear the deck (close tabs, apps, browser windows)
Power down (physically close your laptop, tidy the desk, maybe take a fat bong rip. Just kidding, it’s senior year of college.)
✅ Why It Matters
First, it helps your brain unplug from work, so you can feel more calmed and relaxed in the evening.
Second, it tees up your next day so you start your morning off with less friction and resistance.
✨ How It’s Helped Me
Evenings feel lighter, more relaxed
My mind feels less cluttered
I start the next day already clear on my top priorities
⚡Try This: Your 5-Minute Shutdown Ritual
Set a timer at the end of your work day
Jot down a few reflections:
One win or one thing that drained you
What tasks are closed and what are still open
Your top 3 priorities for tomorrow
Close or reduce browser tabs and apps
Shut your laptop. Tidy your space.
Add a physical cue like a stretch, a scream, a declaration like “dishes are done maaan!”
It doesn’t need to be perfect.
Try it for 7 days.
Future you will thank you.
Five minutes now saves fifteen minutes of scrambling tomorrow morning.
